Letter #1: Racing In The Street

Dear Mr Springsteen (or can I call you Bruce? Mmm...maybe as it's the first letter I should stick with Mr Springsteen as that's far more formal at the start of what is hopefully going to be a long and lasting relationship),

You don't know me but...Any letter that begins with "You don't know me but...", is possibly in danger of being placed in the Circular Filing System (a phrase us Brits use as an alternative to the bin...why we use three words instead of one I cannot explain at this precise moment in time)... please don't do that as I am in need of your particular skill set in this moment of my Personal Mid-Life Crisis (which at aged 58 I should have had years ago but that's a story for another day). It is not your skill set of being a major player in the world of Rock and Roll that I wish to draw upon but rather your knowledge of Cars.

You know a lot about Cars...I have it on "good authority" from people who never listen to your music that all you write about is Cars and Girls but both you and I know that your songwriting skills far exceed the parameters of the Automobile Industry and The Complex Infrastructure known as the Female Mind! So on this occasion I would like to draw upon your deep knowledge of building a car that is worthy to race in the streets, if that is okay with you? I'm sure there's plenty of time in future days to talk about Girls!

From the picture above you will notice I have acquired a fine specimen called a Trabant. I won't bore you with all the details about it's history, after all we have Wikipedia to inform us of such things! Anyway, in your rather excellent song 'Racing in the Street' you said "got a sixty-nine Chevy" that you and your "partner Sonny built her straight out of scratch". So the big question here Mr Springsteen is where do I begin to turn this little baby into a beast where I can "run for the money"? I really "want to blow 'em all out of their seats" by having the fastest and best looking car on the planet!

I appreciate that you have a busy life at the moment with playing on other people's songs (hey I liked the one you did with Mellencamp but wasn't too fussed with Bleachers one, sorry!) so any encouragement you can give will be much appreciated.

Until next time, all the best to you and the family.

Yours sincerely

Doug
